It is officially crunch time in college football! It’s a bit of a bummer that this is the week that we really start breaking down how Ohio State backdoors their way into the playoff, because the games this week pretty well blow. The top two teams in the nation play Mercer and the Citadel, so those should be thrillers. It does shape up a bit to be a very fun week to play the spreads tho! So let’s see how we can shine up this turd of a week with some drinks!
Matador
The early time slot features the only ranked matchup of the weekend when Michigan heads to Madison to take on Wisconsin. There’s still a good chunk of football fans who don’t know how good Wisconsin is, but I think they beat their second straight ranked opponent this week. If you aren’t tuned in to that game, maybe check out TCU in Lubbock taking on Kliff and the Red Raiders. Kingsbury has been coaching for his job for a while now, and it’s not going well. So, we’ll drink to his honor.
What You’ll Need: Gold tequila, pineapple juice, lime juice
In an ice-filled glass of your choosing, mix together 1 part of tequila with 2 parts of pineapple juice. To top it off, add in a splash of lime juice and give it a good shake if you have a shaker handy. If not, a throughout stir will do.
Air Mail
The afternoon games are so ridiculously far from good. Oklahoma takes on Kansas, Ohio State plays Illinois, Notre Dame gets Navy, Penn State hosts Nebraska. This would be a good time to create some sort of “X team scores, drink!” drinking game. Iowa State looks to bounce back against awful Baylor and Iowa takes on the Boilermakers which might be fun. So I guess if you’re into those kinds of things…
What You’ll Need: Bacardi Gold rum, honey, champagne, 1 lime
In a glass with some ice, add in 1-2 shots of Bacardi Gold rum, 1 tsp honey, and squeeze the lime for juice. Give those 3 ingredients a healthy stir and then top off the rest of the drink with champagne.
Wicked Apple
The night games, oh lord the night games. Can’t imagine too many come down to the wire. NC State and Wake Forest might have a decent game with NC State only favored by 1.5. Everything else that night is at least at 16 point spread. Even the Pac-12 After Dark doesn’t intrigue me when Washington takes on Utah. At the same time, Washington has been a bit of a wild card so who knows, could be worth checking out.
What You’ll Need: Jagermeister, Apple schnapps, Pineapple juice
I’m a fan of Jagermeister, some of you may know this already. However, I have not tried this one and it caught enough of my attention to share this with you. It was this or the Jagermeister Bloody Mary, so I did you a solid here. Fill your glass with ice and proceed to mix in 2 parts of Jager and 1 part of apple schnapps. Top off with pineapple juice and enjoy!
Tailgate Beer of the Week!
Full disclosure, I didn’t know this beer existed a week ago until my dad mentioned it to me. I’ve seen been fascinated, but with it being an East coast staple, haven’t yet tried it. Narragansett was started in the late 1880’s and still embraces a traditional style lager. Seems to be fairly easy drinking, but with good flavor. Also, fun aside, had a marketing icon designed by Theodore Geisel (that’s Dr. Seuss!), was the official beer for the Boston Red Sox from 1944-1975 and was the beer featured in Jaws!
That will wrap up our week 12! I hope the football games end up more exciting than we’re expecting. As I do every week, I hope everyone stays safe and wakes up on Sunday victorious! Until next time, so long from Tez!
