We’ve rolled around to week 6 of the season and college football is doing a beautiful job of throwing all of us a healthy dose of curveballs every hour.
Things have been a rollercoaster for most fan bases, but things are still looking positive for a lot of people. There’s been some hilarious endings (why did Northwestern’s QB take that safety?!), and even some shootout fun (OSU-TTU tried their best to hit the 83.5 Over). Some national championship hopes were dashed (sorry USC, but maybe congrats to WSU?).
Regardless, it’s been a lot of fun so far, and it seems all that most people can agree on a Bama-Clemson championship, and a Saquon Barkley Heisman.
Anyway, let’s dive into the heart and soul of our Saturday’s: the booze!
Candy Apple
There’s nothing better than a little fruit in the morning with a little extra sweetness to it! This should get your morning kicked off to a strong start. There’s only 2 ranked showdowns this week, and one of them is Thursday night’s featured game. The most fun on Saturday is going to be watching your favorite team and WVU-TCU in the afternoon, so you might as well get after it!
What You’ll Need: Crown Royal Apple, Crown Royal Maple, Sprite
In a glass filled with ice, mix 2 parts of Crown Royal Apple, 1 part Crown Royal Maple and simply top off with Sprite. Delightfully simple, yet a good drink to get the excitement flowing.
Liquid Cocaine
Miami travels to Tallahassee to take on Florida State. Miami has looked pretty darn good to this point, but I feel like FSU still has some question marks but plenty of potential. This should be a decent battle between two of the Sunshine State’s universities. In honor of The U and their storied history, we’ll dedicate this drink to them.
What You’ll Need: Southern Comfort, Amaretto, Pineapple juice
Fill your chosen cup with ice. Add 1 shot (1-1 1/2 oz) of Southern Comfort and 1 shot (1-1 1/2 oz) of amaretto. Next, make sure to shake your pineapple juice before using it, and top off your cup with it. I recommend giving a good shake or stir to blend everything together, and enjoy!
The Nuge
Michigan State heads to Ann Arbor to take on the Wolverines and I really wanted to find something to highlight this and I stumbled upon this gem/nightmare. It’s named for Michigan-born musician Ted Nugent, who was apparently a brief spokesperson for a ginger ale brand at point. Per the recipe I found, you basically get to choose your own fate on this cocktail, as I feel Jim Harbaugh and crew get to do as well with this game.
What You Need: Whipped cream flavored vodka, ginger ale
Its recommended to fill your cup with ice and proceed to mix the ingredients. It recommends 1-3 oz of whipped cream vodka, depending on your own personal preference. Then, top off with ginger ale (they suggest Vernors Ginger Ale, as that was the company Nugent was a spokesperson for).
Tailgate Beer of the Week!
I swore to myself that I would feature this longstanding American classic at some point in the series, and I had no real reason to not make this week the chosen week. Most of us have had a run in with this delight, and if you haven’t it’s time to step up. This is a beer that seems like a rite of passage in some circles. It probably wouldn’t be super enjoyable to drink all day, so for this week I’m recommending it while you watch Louisville head to NC State. Don’t brush this game off because it might be pretty darn exciting. If you aren’t quite into it, I’ll just let the NC State football account do the talking.
That’s this weeks show from me! Make sure to join me again in a week for more fun and games. Enjoy your weekends, have fun and be safe!
