Shawntez’s Tailgate Drink Menu – Week 3

Shawntez’s Tailgate Drink Menu – Week 3

2 weeks have come and gone and some of us are sitting on top of the world (keep on truckin’ Duke!) while others are in the absolute dumps (lol Baylor). Week 3 isn’t packing quite as much excitement when it comes to marquee matchups, but there’s still always fun to be had on Saturday. As a wise man once said, “Win or lose, we still booze.” So, let’s get to it!

You can find week one right here.

You can find week two right here.

Margarita Mimosa

The morning schedule is bit slow to kick off, but there’s some solid teams kicking off early and we might as well enjoy a stiff drink while they’re going since it may be a roller coaster. We’ll see if Josh Rosen is the dude we think he is against Memphis and Okie State is most likely gonna sling the ball all around on Pitt.

What You’ll Need: Tequila, champagne, Orange juice, Lime juice, Limes (keep ingredients refrigerator or in a cooler for best results.)

If you’re fancy and have a champagne flute you would like to use for this, I applaud you. I’m going to give directions for the way I would probably do it, and that’s without one. This has a lot of potential to ruin your day early, so be careful! Take your cup and fill about 1/3 of the way with champagne. Add a 1/2 shot (3/4 oz) of tequila and a small splash of lime juice. Finally, top off the rest with orange juice and garnish with a lime!

Lunchbox

The afternoon slate is a bit “blah” but the Virginia Tech Hokies are taking the field against East Carolina Pirates, which means an appearance of the infamous VT Lunch Pail, which we’ll call a bit of inspiration for this cocktail. Also keep an eye out for Tennessee headed to the swamp to take on the Florida Gators, where they’ve apparently lost their O and D. This should be fun because the last few years both of these teams have shown potential to beat Alabama or lose to Portland State.

What You’ll Need: beer (any beer you’d like really, run-of-the-mill light beer works great, make sure to check the Tailgate Beer of the Week!), Orange juice, amaretto

You want a beer drinking glass, whether its a mug, pint glass or even just a regular plastic drinking cup. Fill your cup 2/3-3/4 full of beer, then add orange juice until the cup is almost full, making sure to leave room at the top. Now here’s where you have a choice to make. If you’d like to just house this as a drop-shot: fill a shot glass with amaretto, drop it in the cup and tip it on back! If you’d like it as a casual drink, simply pour in a shot (1-1 1/2 oz) of amaretto into your cup and enjoy at your own pace.

Cherry Blossom

Texas-USC kicks off Saturday night and will probably be no fun because Texas isn’t quite back as much as they’d like to believe it. But the fun little spin is how USC has apparently been posting in their media guide for the last 6 years that they’re 4-0 all-time against Texas. But the highlight matchup of the evening is, without a doubt, Clemson-Louisville. A rematch of a heck of a showdown from last season and reigning Heisman winner, Lamar Jackson, should be a heck of a time.

What You’ll Need: Maker’s Mark bourbon, Lemonade, Cranberry juice

Take you chosen drinking cup and fill with ice. Add in 1 shot (1-1 1/2 oz) of Maker’s Mark. Fill almost to the top with lemonade and finally top off with a splash of cranberry juice.

Tailgate Beer of the Week!

Natty Light is a classic that we all know and love! It’s tough to beat a 30 rack for $16, no doubt about it. It’s a staple of all of our upbringing, and as much I as protest it, it’s a heck of a beer. It carried me threw my late teens, a handful of spring breaks and lord knows how many tailgates over the years.

As we all look forward to week 3, I wish everyone a great time and good luck! Let’s all hope for some of the games to be a bit better than we are anticipating and for a full load of tasty beverages all the way around. We’ll see everyone back here next week!
