The Power of the Dog led all Oscar nominations with 12 nods including Best Picture. Haley and I decided to see what all the hype was about with a plate of pesto pasta.

Pesto Pasta
Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 box bowtie pasta
  • 1 pre-packaged grilling vegetable blend
  • 1 jar pre-made pesto
  • Olive oil

Instructions:

  • Boil water and cook pasta, drain
  • Heat oil in pan on medium, add vegetables
  • Cook veggies for about 5-7 minutes
  • Add cooked pasta and stir in pesto (whatever amount you prefer)

The Power of the Dog  (6.9 IMDb; 93% Rotten Tomatoes)

“Charismatic rancher Phil Burbank inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.” – IMDb

Ryan: I am not surprised The Power of the Dog is being considered a favorite to win Best Picture at the Oscars. First of all, it is a very good movie with a stellar cast at its full potential and secondly, it is a movie that wasn’t a box office hit. (For some reason, the Oscars love to give awards to movies that are just under the radar.) The movie is a slow build and will have you on the edge of your seat full of anxiety, but in the end, it will be worth the watch.

Ryan’s one Gif to describe The Power of the Dog:

Haley: This movie knows how to set a tone, and that tone is intense. I’ve never been so stressed by a movie where hardly anything is happening. Of course, all you movie critics, I know *tHiNgS wErE hApPeNiNg*. All I’m saying is don’t go into this movie expecting an action-packed western. Instead be ready for incredible, nuanced performances and embrace the slow build of intense stress and tension as a disapproving brother wrestles for control of the family and the ranch. If you’re prepared to focus on the movie, it’ll be well worth your time.
