Remake or Revere: Monsters Inc.

Here on Remake or Revere, we are tasked with watching the movie that was number one on the box office 20 years ago this week. Well, the first week in November 2001 a little movie called “Monsters Inc.” came out and had an opening weekend of $62,577,067, which to no surprise won that week. It is the fourth movie to come out from Pixar after the first two Toy Story films and “A Bugs Life”  This movie was a hit and spawned a prequel and a sequel series on Disney +.

To be honest I didn’t rewatch this movie because I have two young boys and I have seen it many many times. It stars Billy Crystal and John Goodman as Mike and Sully, two monsters whose job is to scare kids. It also has Steve Buscemi as a villain. They realize the making kids laugh makes more money so they do that instead, at the end. But you already know all of this.

One thing about this movie is I feel like it gets lost in the Toy Story and Nemos of the world and is actually a little underrated. It is one of the best Pixar has done. I would put it with movies like “Up” for sure.

So while I think recasting this movie would be tough, that is the point of this article. So here goes.

Mike Wazowski: let’s go with Jonah Hill, Yeah he isn’t as funny as Crystal but stay with me as you will see who I cast as Sully.

James P. “Sulley” Sullivan: Give me Channing Tatum and let’s recapture that 22 Jump Street magic by letting them bounce off of each other. Another obvious choice here is Seth Rogan, which honestly might be a better pick.

Randall Boggs: While it is impossible to replace Steve Buscemi, let’s go with a little rowdier Randall and bring in Danny McBride. His brute energy would make this movie a lot of fun.

Celia Mae: Who was played perfectly by Jennifer Tilly how about we replace her with Archer voice actress and overall great actress Judy Greer.

Like I said above, this movie is so damn good, I don’t think you should mess with it. But if I were to do it I think these picks would make a great cast.
