Dinner and a Movie with the Moons

Dinner and a Movie with the Moons

This month we watch the infinite time loop comedic gold of Palm Springs and grill that Iowa summer sweet corn.

Mango BBQ Sweet Corn

Ingredients:

  • 6 ears of sweet corn
  • ½ cup of red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 lime, cut in half
  • 1 cup of Mango Deadeye BBQ
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

Turn the grill to medium/high heat. Shuck the corn while the grill is heating, then place corn directly on the grill for about 20 minutes and rotate occasionally. While corn is grilling, prepare the sauce by heating olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and saute for about 5 minutes, then take one half of the lime and juice over the pan. Stir onion and juice for a few more minutes, then add BBQ sauce and reduce heat. Let simmer and stir occasionally for at least 5 minutes or until the sauce thickens. When the corn is almost done, thoroughly coat with the BBQ mixture on all sides of the cob and let cook for about 1 ½ minutes on each side. Use the other half of the lime to add lime juice to the finished corn, if desired.

Light Spoilers

Haley: I hope this email movie finds you well in these unprecedented times… (Ellipsis, nice) but for real, it will. At one time or another this year, I’m sure we’ve all felt like we’re stuck in a time loop, and it was a lot of fun to watch two people make the most of a bad situation by letting loose and not caring about anything. (How liberating!) After a lot of ridiculous scenarios and several laugh-out-loud moments, the story gets more heartfelt and the chemistry between Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti becomes even better than their characters’ ridiculous adventures. Sprinkle in a bit of “women taking control to get shit done” and you’ve got a rom-com that feels fresh and fun, and crazy yet believable… perfect for 2020.

Ryan: Okay, let’s be honest, 2020 has been a shit year. But what if I told you I can provide you fun content to keep you distracted from the shit year for 90 minutes? That fun content is Palm Springs. This modern-day take on Groundhog Day is warm, colorful, hilarious, and a feel-good rom-com that is exactly needed in 2020. But I did have some anxiety watching because my thought was always “omg what if tomorrow they wake up and the infinite time loop is over and they just did X horrible thing?” But knowing how it ends, the second, third, and infinite watch will be better. And if this is your introduction to the brilliance of Cristin Milioti (Sarah), other than that trash TV show HIMYM, I suggest you watch her in the TV show, Fargo.
