Dinner and a Movie with the Moons

Dinner and a Movie with the Moons

We are back with Dinner and a Movie with the Moons! Haley and I enjoy watching movies, but we especially enjoy sharing the experience with friends. With the new normal of social distancing, we had to adapt this past weekend when a couple of friends wanted to watch and help introduce Haley to The Matrix. After enjoying taco night with Haley’s freshly made tortillas, we downloaded the Google Chrome extension Netflix Party on our laptop and then video called our friends as we sat down to enjoy the movie.

HOMEMADE FLOUR TORTILLAS

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbs olive oil
  • 1 cup water

Instructions:

Mix the flour and salt together in a large bowl. Add the oil and water, then mix with your hands to form a ball of dough. On a floured surface, knead the dough until it’s smooth and held together. Let rest for 10 minutes. Divide dough into 10 even sections, and use a wine bottle (or a rolling pin if you’re fancy) and roll into thin tortillas. Don’t worry about making perfect circles.

Heat a skillet over medium heat and grease. Put tortillas on the skillet and cook for 30-60 seconds each side. Enjoy!

The Matrix (8.7 IMDb; 87% Rotten Tomatoes)

Ryan: The Matrix needs no introduction unless you have been living under a rock your whole life or if you took the blue pill. Somehow each time I rewatch the movie it continues to get better and I notice things I didn’t notice the time before. From the great story line to camera work to the incredible and unique fighting scenes, this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. If you have been holding out on watching the greatest duel in cinematic history, hero Neo vs villain Agent Smith, take the damn red pill and wake up.

Haley: Apparently I’m one of those people who have been living under a rock their whole life, as this was my first time watching The Matrix. I am a known hater of action movies, and I had built up a certain level of annoyance towards this movie based on the number of times I’ve had to say, “No, really, I haven’t seen it.” Because of this I was fully prepared to hate it and defend my hatred to the masses. But, I’m happy to say I won’t have to do that and that I finally understand what all the fuss has been about since 1999. This. Movie. Was. Awesome. The action scenes were fun to watch (something I’ve never said, nor will ever say again, probably) and I love a philosophical conundrum. I still have no idea what pill I would take, but I am sure I will be watching this one again soon.
