Shawntez’s Tailgate Menu – Week 6

Shawntez’s Tailgate Menu – Week 6

I’m not going to recap Week 5 too much because all any of us took from it was that Ohio State ran the absolute brakes off of Nebraska, under the lights, in front of the entire country. Way to go Huskers.
LETS GET INTO IT!

Italian Sunset

If you know me, you know I very rarely would offer this advice to the entire world, but if you’re watching college football at 11 AM Central time you need to be watching the teams from the State of Iowa. I’m not saying this as a homer or even to overhype the two teams. It’s just the rest of the games in this time slot look like trash. Are you going to watch Oklahoma beat Kansas by hopefully less than 33? Nope. Are you going to watch Penn State whoop Purdue by 50? Nope. Kent State vs. Wisconsin? No. Oklahoma State vs. Texas Tech? Absolutely not. So find the Hawkeyes heading to the Big House to battle Michigan and the Cyclones hosting TCU in the rain again.
What You’ll Need: Amaretto, Orange Juice, Soda Water, Grenadine
This one is easy as pie! In a glass of ice mix together equal parts of amaretto, OJ and soda water. Add a splash of grenadine for extra color and flavor and an orange slice to garnish.

Steel Reserve Alloy Series

The afternoon picks up a bit, per usual. The SEC has a high powered Auburn/Florida matchup that could be a lot of fun. Bo Nix has been an absolute delight for the Tigers, and Florida is still producing very well even though they’re fighting the injury bug in some important spots. Texas heads to West Virginia where the Mountaineers have been a touch better than expected. Speaking of better than expected, two more teams from the Big XII battle one out in a game that will be huge come the end of the year. Baylor against Kansas State both need a win to keep themselves still staring down a path to Dallas with destiny in their own control.

I thought this drink was a joke until I saw it in a cooler at the gas station last night. Just read that description they use to try sell this monstrosity. I also respect the addition of the protein and fat nutritional facts in there. This has to be garbage. There’s five other flavors, but this was the most fun to feature. Someone please try one for me.

Cereal Snack Bars

I think the afternoon might have all the fun this week. Some top teams are off, and the night games don’t really draw a ton of eyes. Michigan State is taking on the Ohio State Buckeyes, which looks to be an ass whooping. Washington is taking a vacation to Southern California where Stanford is hoping to ruin their trip to the beach. Cal is sneaking around on people so this week we’ll see if they can bring it again and knock off Oregon. I doubt it, but I also put a hefty chunk of money a few weeks ago on Washington State to beat the Golden Bears by a TD, so what the heck do I know?

What You’ll Need: butter, peanut butter, mini marshmallows, pretzels, M&Ms, chocolate chips, Cocoa Pebbles
This is an easy, no-bake snack to take to any tailgate or watch party. The first step is to melt down 1/2 cup of butter and peanut butter each in a sauce pan. Add in 5 1/2 cups of mini marshmallows to the same sauce pan and let them melt down. Set this delightful concoction aside. In a large bowl, mix together 1/4 cup chocolate chips, 3 cups of pretzel sticks, 2 large packages of M&Ms (I used peanut butter but only because the store didn’t have the caramel ones), 3 cups of Cocoa Pebbles (the original recipe calls for Chex. I used Fruity Pebbles. I went too far in trying to be creative). Hand mix the dry goods to blend it all together, then pour the peanut butter-mallow mix over the top. Mix together with a spoon to make sure everything gets a nice even cover and blend. Then simply transfer into a 9×13 pan and press the top firmly down to make sure the bars hold together. Let them stand in the refrigerator for a couple hours. Cut and serve!

That’s all we have for what I feel like is a bit of an underwhelming week of college football. However, this sort of week sets up for everything to be a shootout and a sprint to the finish after this. So take it easy this week, enjoy some snacks and cocktails, and come back ready to go next week!
