Week four of the Ultimate Tailgate Road Trip takes us to one of America’s most picturesque college towns in America, Boulder, Colorado. This Week Four matchup between the Colorado Buffaloes and the Washington Huskies is a rematch of the 2016 Pac 12 Conference Championship Game which took place last December in Santa Clara, California.
In the 2016 title game, the Huskies defeated the Buffaloes 41-10 in a game mostly decided by a strong third quarter which put the game on ice. Perhaps the one blemish on the Buffaloes schedule, the Colorado Buffaloes had a breakout season during the 2016 campaign which resurrected the program following five dormant seasons in the record books. As Mike McIntyre continues to build his Buffaloes program, revenge could come a long way in continuing his upward trend.
The 2016 Washington Huskies were the darlings of college football. Following numerous legendary performances at Boise State, Chris Peterson finally has a winner in Seattle, a program which has also seen its share of difficulties over the last decade.
Returning for the Washington Huskies includes QB Jake Browning, who racked up over 3400 yards of passing during the 2016 campaign. The calm and collected quarterback captured the attention of America last season during Washington’s breakout, and could be poised for a season full of accolades in 2017 if this progress continues.
The Colorado Buffaloes, coming off of their miracle season in 2016 will face a great challenge in replacing defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt, who departed for Eugene, Oregon and the Oregon Ducks in the offseason. In addition, last year’s senior quarterback Sefo Liufau will not be of service during the 2017 season.
Based upon early season losses, and a continued upward trend for the Washington Huskies, the Colorado Buffaloes have another uphill climb against the Washington Huskies in this Week Four matchup. The Buffaloes will need a strong home field advantage (something which has been a struggle for ages as the Buffaloes compete against the Broncos for fans and attention) in order to pull off what will be a monumental upset vs the Washington Huskies in 2017.
PREDICTION: Washington 42 Colorado 24
